The Benefits of DVD technology
- Picture Quality – DVDs allow you to watch your favourite movies, search for specific scenes, play them in slow motion or freeze a scene, again & again, without the disc losing any quality.
- Supports a variety of formats, including DVD movies, music & video CDs, CD-Rs and Audio DVDs. Sound – DVDs include 6 channel Dolby Digital or competing Digital Theater Sound surround sound, thus producing movie theatre sound quality.
- Added Features – DVD’s high capacity offers not only the movie, but special features such as outtakes, director’s commentary, music, games, extra scenes, as well as choice of languages and subtitles.

Advantages
-
The picture, sound quality and general durability are of a much higher quality than VCR.
-
Save space – DVDs take up a lot less space compared to VHS tapes.
-
Access specific scenes or programs easily.
-
No change of quality no matter how many times the DVD is played.
Disadvantages:
-
VCR recorders are the cheapest option for recording your favourite programs.
-
As DVD technology develops, DVDs you recorded or bought years ago may not play on newer players.
-
There are two types of DVDs: The plus (+) format and the minus (-) format both produce high quality DVDs. By and large, all DVD recorders will play both formats, even though it may record in one or the other.
-
* DVD/R – Once information is recorded, it cannot be changed or erased
-
* DVD/RW – This disc allows you to record over previous material time and time again, up to 1,000 times. This disc is more expensive than the DVD/R but over time the DVD/RW may prove cost effective.
